The Entry and Outdoor Spaces
Amoroso is located on a historical walk street in Venice that is closed to vehicular traffic. This charming and highly-valued urban area was designed to have the look and feel of Venice, Italy and therefore, by design, home lots are quite small. This property was identified as a historically contributed property which meant it has been reserved almost in its entirety including the original windows and doors which raised a design challenge.
The Living Room
The front section of the house was utilized as the living room, keeping the original shape of the pitched roof the ceiling was covered with tongue and groove planks and exposed beams providing volume on one hand and coziness on the other hand.
Careful consideration went into the exterior landscape architecture on such as small lot. We chose specific plantings that were visible from every window. Special attention was given to the large dining room, floor-to-ceiling window in our design of a wall of succulents and herbs that provides year-round privacy and beauty.
Great care is needed when dealing with the restoration of a historical home. This home beautifully addressed even the requirement of privacy.
The Kitchen
Solid-color inset cabinetry was used to avoid a massive kitchen look; the blocks of color blended naturally with the wooden floors and became almost seamless; this aided in our desire to make the backsplash the focal point of the kitchen. Even the bold Wolf appliances bow to the overall continuity and design of the space.
The irregularly-shape intimate breakfast nook was the final touch that completed the first floor and provides a peaceful view of the back patio. This multi-use area was designed to accommodate this family as a homework space, a baby play area while mom is in the kitchen, or as an intimate family space. (It includes a convenient TV connection as well.
The Bedrooms
The owners wanted to have a room that can be accessed separately, we used one side of the house that had an old door and turned it into a separate suite for guests or an in-home office with its own bath for this particular family setting.
Under the direction and participation of the owners’ specific style, the building materials chosen are all classic materials, repeated throughout the home to provide a familiar feel when walking through the home. Honed beveled carrara marble “Classic and timeless, Arabescato Carrara 4×12 honed and big beveled marble tiles were chosen feature the iconic soft white and gray tones natural marble is known for. The beveled edges of this white tile update the look of this traditional stone, making it the perfect choice for installation projects from traditional to modern.”
In the front yard, a fire pit was installed covered with tall trees providing a feel you are surrounded by nature when in reality you are located in on of the most Urbanic spots in town…
The set backs were utilized for parking space and the garage was converted to the owner’s gym/ yoga room;
This elevated historic home is guarded by a sentry of ancient Venice oaks.
4 ensuite Bedrooms full of charm and character, highlighted with wood built-in closets, vaulted ceilings and a privet Romeo & Juliet balcony.
The Rooftop Deck
In order to provide an additional outdoor space a roof deck was installed. This space is built as a private oasis with classic tiles, an outdoor kitchen and a spa to soak away the day while watching the sunset.
The access area was used to create a place to get away and unwind, read a book, or gain added privacy. Per the owner’s request, a small fridge and tea kettle were designated into the design as a place to enjoy their early morning routine with the sunrise.
The home building restrictions on this historical home gave us a few challenges, however the were welcomed as it was a pleasure to hone our building skills in its renovation. Venice sunrises and sunsets with an ocean breeze makes this a truly one of a kind home.
